What changed versus the original EOS R8

The 2023 EOS R8 launched at $1,499 body-only with the same 24.2MP sensor class, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, 40 fps electronic burst, and 4K 60 / FHD 180 video, but no IBIS and no rear joystick. The Mark II’s main hardware upgrades are IBIS, a multi-controller (AF joystick), Pre-Continuous Shooting, a more angular body, a side SD door, Register People Priority, and Slow & Fast on the mode dial.

What did not jump a class: the EVF and LCD resolutions, the LP-E17 battery, and the single card slot. TechRadar’s hands-on also says the body is part aluminum alloy and polycarbonate and is not weather-sealed. The Mark II is slightly larger and heavier than the original R8 (461 g / 132.6 x 86.1 x 70.1 mm).
