Steam Machine Pre-order/In Stock/Availability Tracker

Last Update: June 30, 2026

Valve’s Steam Machine is a compact living-room gaming PC built around SteamOS and a semi-custom AMD platform. After a delay caused by the 2025–2026 memory and storage price spike, Valve has officially confirmed pricing and a launch date: the Steam Machine ships June 29, 2026, with a randomized reservation queue opening on Steam before launch.

The Steam Machine starts at $1,049 for the 512GB model and $1,349 for the 2TB model. A Steam Controller bundle adds $79. This page tracks Steam Machine pre-order, reservation, in stock, restock, and availability updates at Steam and major retailers.

Steam Machine pre-order and reservation status

Valve is not using a traditional pre-order system for the Steam Machine. Instead, buyers must sign up on Steam for a randomized reservation queue. The sign-up window opened on June 23, 2026 and is scheduled to close on June 25, 2026 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. After the window closes, Valve will randomize the list and notify selected buyers by email. Selected users then have 72 hours to complete their purchase.

Eligibility requirements for the reservation queue:

  • A Steam account in good standing
  • At least one Steam purchase made before April 27, 2026
  • Limit of one Steam Machine per household (enforced via payment method, shipping address, and other account signals)

Valve stated that the first orders should go out on June 29, 2026, with continued shipping as units become available. Because component shortages affected production, launch inventory is expected to be limited.

Steam Machine price and configurations

Valve confirmed four configurations for the Steam Machine launch:

Configuration Price (USD)
Steam Machine 512GB $1,049
Steam Machine 512GB + Steam Controller bundle $1,128
Steam Machine 2TB $1,349
Steam Machine 2TB + Steam Controller bundle $1,428

The Steam Controller normally retails separately at $99.99, so the bundle saves a small amount. The 2TB model also includes two exclusive swappable faceplates in red fabric and solid walnut finishes. Valve has published CAD files for the external hull so third parties can manufacture custom faceplates.

Valve acknowledged that pricing landed higher than originally planned. Early community hopes centered on a sub-$799 figure, but RAM and storage price increases in late 2025 and early 2026 pushed the final MSRP above the $1,000 mark.

Steam Machine specifications

  • CPU: Semi-custom AMD Zen 4, 6-core / 12-thread, up to 4.8 GHz peak, ~30W TDP
  • GPU: Semi-custom AMD RDNA 3, 28 compute units, up to 2.45 GHz sustained clock, 110W TDP, 8GB dedicated GDDR6 VRAM
  • System RAM: 16GB DDR5 (single DIMM design)
  • Storage: 512GB NVMe SSD or 2TB NVMe SSD
  • Operating system: SteamOS (Linux-based, same family as Steam Deck)
  • Networking: 2×2 Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, gigabit Ethernet, integrated 2.4 GHz Steam Controller wireless adapter
  • Rear ports: 1× DisplayPort 1.4, 1× HDMI 2.0, 2× USB-A 2.0, 1× USB-C 3.2 Gen 2
  • Front ports: 2× USB-A 3.2 Gen 1
  • Extras: 17 individually addressable RGB LEDs for system status and customization, SD card slot for storage expansion, built-in power supply
  • Dimensions: 156 × 162.4 × 152 mm (roughly six-inch cube)
  • Weight: 2.6 kg / 5.7 lbs

Valve markets the Steam Machine as roughly six times more powerful than a Steam Deck, capable of 4K gaming at 60 FPS with FSR upscaling. Reviews from Digital Foundry and Gamers Nexus show it delivers performance broadly comparable to a PlayStation 5 in many titles, with some gaps in memory bandwidth. FSR 4 support is confirmed to be coming post-launch.

Where to buy Steam Machine

The primary launch channel is the Steam Store. Valve’s reservation queue is the only official way to buy a Steam Machine at launch. Third-party retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, and Newegg do not currently have official Steam Machine listings, but this tracker monitors those stores in case Valve expands retail distribution after the initial launch wave.

Given the randomized reservation system and limited launch inventory, most buyers will either need to join the Steam reservation queue or watch for restock availability after launch. Signing up for email alerts on this page will help you catch restocks and new retailer listings as they appear.

Steam Machine FAQ

How much does the Steam Machine cost?

The Steam Machine starts at $1,049 for the 512GB model and $1,349 for the 2TB model. Bundling a Steam Controller adds $79, bringing the bundles to $1,128 and $1,428 respectively.

Can I pre-order the Steam Machine?

Not in the traditional sense. Valve is using a randomized reservation queue on Steam. Sign up between June 23 and June 25, 2026; Valve then selects buyers randomly and emails them a 72-hour purchase window.

When does the Steam Machine ship?

Valve says the first orders ship on June 29, 2026, with additional units shipping as production continues. Selected buyers receive a notification when it is their turn to complete the purchase.

Who is eligible to join the Steam Machine reservation queue?

You need a Steam account in good standing and at least one Steam purchase made before April 27, 2026. Reservations are limited to one per household.

Will the Steam Machine be sold on Amazon or Best Buy?

Not at launch. Steam Store is the only official launch channel. Third-party retailer availability has not been confirmed, but this tracker monitors Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Newegg, and eBay for future listings.

What games can the Steam Machine run?

The Steam Machine runs SteamOS and uses Valve’s Proton compatibility layer, so it can play a large portion of the Steam library, including many Windows-only PC games. Valve’s Steam Deck Verified program has been extended to cover Steam Machine, with compatibility badges shown on Steam store pages.

Should I wait for Steam Deck 2 instead?

Valve has confirmed a Steam Deck 2 is in development but has said it is not coming soon. If you want a living-room 4K-capable Steam gaming system now, the Steam Machine is Valve’s current flagship home device. If you want a portable, the current Steam Deck remains the option until Deck 2 is announced.
